On the 5th of July 2024, Oxford Theology Resources Link (OTRL) was graced with a visit from the pastor, Rev David Kim from Hallelujah Community Church and his family. During this visit, he kindly offered prayers and support for the ongoing mission of the charity, which started to be a cornerstone for theological education and training in the majority world libraries. The pastor and his family came to witness firsthand the rich heritage and scholarship that OTRL has to offer to the majority world libraries in need.
Upon arrival at Wycliffe Hall where currently the charity is based, the pastor led a moment of prayer for the resources and the volunteer team, asking for continued guidance and blessings as they serve scholars, theologians, ministers, students and faith communities alike. His prayers focused on the importance of theological research in nurturing understanding and spreading the word of God, as well as the critical role that collections like those at Oxford play in preserving Christian history for future generations in the world.
In addition to offering their spiritual support, the family had the unique opportunity to visit New College Library, one of Oxford’s historic libraries, where they explored some of the most treasured pieces in the college’s special collections. Among the many highlights of their visit was a private viewing of Wycliffite Bibles, which date back to the 14th and 16th centuries.
The Wycliffite Bibles, named after John Wycliffe, a forerunner of the Reformation, are an extraordinary piece of Christian history. These editions represent some of the earliest translations of the Bible into English, a revolutionary act at a time when the Scriptures were primarily available only in Latin. The pastor and his family were in awe of the various editions on display, marvelling at the craftsmanship, historical significance, and enduring legacy of Wycliffe's work. They expressed deep admiration for the scholars who preserved these texts through centuries of change. Each edition showcased the different phases of translation and the pastor, known for his love of biblical scholarship, particularly appreciated the rare opportunity to view these documents, calling it a moment of profound reflection and inspiration.
The visit included New College’s chapel, where the family reflected on the day’s experiences, cherishing the chance to witness both the spiritual and academic contributions of Oxford to the Christian world. This event amplifies the deep bond between faith and scholarship, underscoring the importance of supporting charities like Oxford Resources Link that continue to nurture and safeguard Christian knowledge for future generations in the majority world.
2024년 7월 5일, 옥스포드 신학 자료 링크(OTRL)에 할렐루야 교회의 김승욱 목사님과 그의 가족이 방문하는 귀한 시간이 있었습니다. 이번 방문에서 목사님은 저희 자선단체의 지속적인 사명을 위해 기도와 지지를 아끼지 않으셨습니다. OTRL은 신학 자료를 필요로 하는 세계 도서관에게 신학 자료를 무상으로 제공하여 신학 교육에 기여하고자 합니다. 목사님과 가족분들은 OTRL가 어떻게 프로젝트를 운영하고 있는지 직접 보기 위하여 방문하셨습니다.
목사님 일행이 현재 저희 단체가 위치한 옥스포드 대학의 칼리지중 하나인 신학학당 위클리프 홀에 도착하여 자원봉사 팀을 위해 기도를 해주셨습니다. 목사님은 신학자, 목회자, 교수, 학생, 그리고 신앙 공동체를 위해 봉사하는 자원봉사 팀에게 계속적인 인도와 축복이 있기를 간구하셨습니다. 그의 기도는 신학 연구가 신앙의 이해를 키우고 하나님의 말씀을 전파하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다는 점과, 옥스포드와 같은 도서관에서 나온 영어의 자료들이 세계 각지의 신학 도서관에 퍼져서 기독교 연구의 결과와 역사적 산물을 전달하고 보존하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다는 데 초점을 맞췄습니다.
이외에도 목사님 가족은 옥스포드의 역사적인 도서관 중 하나인 뉴 칼리지 도서관을 방문하는 특별한 기회를 가졌습니다. 그곳에서 그들은 칼리지의 특별 소장품 중 가장 소중한 작품들을 보셨습니다. 방문의 하이라이트 중 하나는 14세기와 16세기에 제작된 위클리프 성경의 여러 판본의 특별한 개인 전시였습니다.
종교 개혁의 선구자였던 존 위클리프의 이름을 딴 위클리프 성경은 기독교 역사에서 매우 중요한 결과물로 이 판본들은 성경이 주로 라틴어로만 제공되던 시대에, 14세기 영어로 번역된 최초의 성경책으로 이는 혁명적인 행위로 평가받고 있습니다. 목사님과 그의 가족은 전시된 다양한 판본에 깊은 감명을 받았으며, 각 판본의 미적인 세공과 역사적 중요성, 그리고 위클리프의 작품이 남긴 지속적인 유산에 경외심을 표했습니다. 그들은 세기를 거쳐 이러한 텍스트를 보존해 온 도서관에 대한 깊은 존경심을 표현했습니다. 각 판본은 번역의 여러 단계를 보여주었고, 특히 성서학에 대한 사랑으로 알려진 목사님은 이 문서들을 볼 수 있는 드문 기회를 깊이 감사하며, 그것을 깊은 성찰과 영감의 순간이라고 불렀습니다.
방문은 뉴 칼리지의 채플에서 마무리되었으며, 그곳에서 목사님 가족은 그날의 경험을 되돌아보며, OTRL이 전세계에 제공하는 영적, 학문적 기여를 목도할 수 있었던 기회를 소중히 여겼습니다. 이번 방문은 신앙과 그 깊이를 증폭시킬수 있는 신학 학문 자료들에 대한 중요성을 각인시키며, 미래 세대를 위해 기독교 지식을 양성하고 보호 지원하는 OTRL과 같은 자선 단체의 사업을 지속적으로 지원하는 것이 얼마나 중요한지를 다시금 상기시켰습니다.
