Since its inception, Korean churches and believers have been supporting Kumi University, which has always been a significant force for the financially-struggling institution. Currently, the university consists of four faculties: Education and Language Studies, Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Business Administration, and Theology. According to statistics, Uganda is home to around 1.5 million African refugees, including those from Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Kenya, and Tanzania, among other neighbouring countries, with a significant number having fled internal conflicts in Sudan and South Sudan. Due to the difficulty these refugees face in accessing education benefits, Kumi University has established a system where 10% of its enrolment is reserved for refugee students, providing scholarships to enable them to pursue vocational and higher education. The Theology faculty of Kumi University emphasizes an ecumenical approach based on the Bible rather than focusing on any specific denomination.
처음 개설했을 때부터 지금까지 한국 교회와 성도님들이 후원하고 있으며 이는 재정이 어려운 쿠미 대학에 항상 큰 힘이 되고 있습니다. 현재 교육어학부, 과학 기술학부, 사회과학 경영학부, 그리고 신학부 등 4개의 학부로 구성되어 있습니다. 통계에 따르면 우간다에는 150만명의 아프리카 난민들이 들어와 살고 있는데 르완다, 부룬디, 콩고, 케냐, 탄자니아 등의 주변 나라에서 온 경우가 있고 그리고 내전을 겪은 수단, 남수단 출신들인 경우가 가장 많습니다. 이런 난민들응 교육 해택을 받기가 어렵기 떄문에 저희 쿠미 대학에서는 정원의 10%에 해당하는 학생들을 난민 출신중에서 뽑고 장학금을 지금하여 직업교육과 고등교육을 받을 수 있는 체계를 구체적으로 마련하였습니다. 쿠미 대학교의 신학부는 특정 교단만을 강조하지 않고 성경을 기반으로 복음적인 초교파를 지향합니다.
